Mary Edwards, ASID has designed hundreds of homes and offices in the U.S. and abroad that range from a tiny apartment in New Zealand to a huge villa in Tuscany or space station interiors for NASA. Mostly, she has enjoyed making homes for people that are fun, comfortable and stylish. Her work has been published in Metropolitan Home, Elle Décor, Time, Interiors, and Interior Design magazines to name a few. Her custom rug business included a decade of designing textiles manufactured in Bombay, Hong Kong, and Manila, and distributed through 70 showrooms in the United States
Mary continued her interest of interior design by teaching design at the Academy of Art College in San Francisco for 5 years, and honed her skills to teach the basics of good interior design to architects, designers and the public.
Her love of giving memorable parties came from pulling together interiors as well as gathering people for a great event. The process is the same for both, which includes ideas, planning, organization and execution of a thought-out plan down to the little details. This book is a compendium of her style, food, home, interior design and entertaining. She lives in San Francisco.
Martha Sutherland, a leading New York Asian art dealer, is a Princeton educated art historian who speaks and reads fluent idiomatic Mandarin. She has spent most of her adult life living and working in Greater China, beginning in the late 1970’s at the National Palace Museum in Taipei. She later completed two years of post-graduate work study at the Central Art Academy in Beijing. She lived and travelled to China throughout her 18 years of service in the U.S. Diplomatic Corps, including three years in the late 1990’s at the White House in the U.S. Trade Representative’s office, negotiating China’s WTO accession.
Martha is one of the very few Americans in her generation with this level of erudition and insight into modern Chinese culture and art. She operates her gallery on the Upper East Side of New York City and maintains homes in San Francisco and on the Virginia coast.
